Stages en vacatures

[English follows Dutch]

Stageplekken

  • Master internship Microbiology / Biochemistry:
Structure and function of ammonium transport proteins from the anaerobic ammonium oxidizing
bacterium Kuenenia stuttgartiensis, Institute for Biochemistry, Freiburg University, Germany

Two Master internship positions are open in the Andrade group, located at the Institute for Biochemistry, Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy http://www.biophysics.uni-freiburg.de) in Freiburg (Germany), which will focus on investigating the structure and function of ammonium transport proteins from the anaerobic ammonium oxidizing bacterium Kuenenia stuttgartiensis. This project is a collaboration with the microbial cell biology group (Department of Microbiology, IWWR, FNWI, Radboud University).
The students will (be trained to) clone, purify, reconstitute protein in proteoliposomes, carry out electrophysiology experiments, characterize proteoliposomes by freeze-fracture TEM or cryo-EM and solve the three-dimensional structure of interesting variants depending on the stage of the project in which they enroll.
We look for highly motivated and creative students with an interest in (bio)chemistry and microbiology. We offer an excellent opportunity to engage into an exciting project that combines biochemical, biophysical and structural biology tools to investigate how ammonium transport (Amt) proteins function in ion transport and signal transduction events, in the context of a dynamic and enthusiastic work environment with state-of-the-art equipment.

Internships

Both during your Bachelor and your master you have to do internships. You can do these internships internally at a research department of the Radboud university and the Radboud UMC. However, it is also possible to do your internship externally, either at a different university or even at a company of your choosing. Here below you can find several vacancies for internships:

  • Nationaal Water Traineeship
  • Ceradis is a small spin-off company of the WUR (Wageningen University & Research), which has its headquarters in Wageningen. Ceradis develops and sells innovative and environmental friendly solutions for plant nutrition and crop protection. Ceradis also offers formulating services to create safer foods.
