Association calendar

  • Spending a day with an alumnus

The alumni committee of BeeVee (Ac) wants to give students the opportunity to orientate more into their field of their interest. One of the ways they want to make this possible is with the with-walk-day, days where you can come along with an alumnus to their work. so it's important to give them this possibility. With this form of personal interaction they hope to give students a more realistic view of what a day at the job could look like and what they could be doing in the future.

  • Record Swap

It’s that time of the year again: DIAFRAGMA’s Record Swap! The theme of this year is #metunes. On the borrel of 17 October you can come and collect your empty CD. You can choose your own music that fits the theme and put it on the CD. Design a nice cover as well, since the best cover will win a prize! The CD should be handed in in the board room before 7 December. On the Christmas borrel you will get a CD from someone else. Maybe this person had a completely different view on the theme. You might even discover some new music!

Have you missed the information meetings? Don't worry, all the Powerpoints are on the BOS page of the Beevee website! In short: we travel by bus (some of you might remember Willie the hilarious bus driver) to Ljubljana and Vienna, we will visit two national parks and two universities and you will get a city tour of the beautiful Vienna! There will also be plenty of free time in both cities :) The costs of the trip are 425 euros, but if you participate for the first time you can get subsidies from Student Life (75 euros) and BeeVee (25-100 euros, depending on the number of participants).

You can register in the board room during the breaks or whenever you see a board member on the run, until February 18th. Hand in two copies of the contract (on the BeeVee website) and two copies of a valid passport or ID. Also bring your debit card, so they can check your bank account number.

In addition you must bring two copies of a valid travel document (passport or ID, front and back), otherwise we cannot accept your registration! A drivers license does not suffice! Lastly, your bank account number has to be checked by a board member, so do not forget to bring your debit card.

  • Fc's Poolparty

    Dear (marine) Biologists,

Spring has arrived, sunny days are coming. How else do you celebrate these better days than with a great party? Fc is presenting you, our first edition of a POOLPARTY!

To be very clear, we start with a few strict rules for this event; READ EVERYTHING CAREFULLY!
    - You’re only able to enter the poolparty between 20:15 – 21:15. So be on time!
    - The party will end at 01:00. The bar closes at 00:30.
    - Because of the privacy of our guests, we don’t want any phones around the poolparty. You need to keep them into the lockers. (bring one euro for a locker, maybe share this with a friend, they are big enough!)
    - It’s not allowed to dive or run at any time.
    - When you break any objects, all costs will be for you.
    - A shower is required before entering the pool.
    - Smoking is only allowed in the smoking area.
    - There is a zero tolerance policy regarding bringing alcohol/drugs/food and anything made of glass. There will be a bag check at the entrance.
    - The guests are expected to be sober at the start of the party. Whenever it’s noticed that someone is drunk, they will be refused to enter the party.
    - Whenever someone is too drunk/ being a nuisance for the organisation, they will be removed from the party.
    - We advise you to wear flip flops! The floor will be wet and it will be very slippery.
    - It is allowed to bring your own small inflatable objects!
    - You can only pin at the poolparty!
    Now, it’s time for some practical information;
The poolparty will be held on the 18th of April at the Planetenstraat 65, 6543 VW Nijmegen. For the people that do not know the way or are not able to find this, several board members will cycle with a group to the poolparty. The place where you will regroup with the board members will be announced later. Once more, you can only enter the party between 20:15 and 21:15 so be on time!

There is an option to buy some coins in advance, you will receive these coins at the beginning of the poolparty! You can exchange one coin for a drink or some snacks. So for example, when you buy 10 coins you can exchange this for 8 beers and two snacks. We strongly advise to buy some coins beforehand, because there is only one pin machine at the poolparty. If everyone has to buy their coins, there will be a very long queue! The price per coin is €2,20!

Tickets for Beevee members: €10/ with 5 coins €21/ with 10 coins €32

  • Farewell lecture by Titti Mariani

We all got to know her during our first course in Biology. She taught us plants aren't as boring as they'd seemed to be, and for most of us she soon grew out to be one of our favourite professors: Titti Mariani. Who doesn't remember her 'zwembandjes' and basil plants? This year she'll take her well-deserved retirement, but especially for us she'll be giving one last farewell lecture. Don't miss your chance of seeing Titti one last time and come to the break-lecture on the 17th of may at 12:15 in HG00.307. There will be free cookies! Please sign up via or via the site of BeeVee. If there's still room you're free to walk in on the 17th, but full is full!

About the lecture: 'Plant Science in Society'
Plant science is a great discipline that enables scientists to ask very interesting and fundamental questions such as development, cell differentiation, cell-cell communication (stem cells were discovered in plants much earlier than in animals!!),just to mention a few, which can be approached using a variety of the most innovative techniques. However, plants are also the main producers of food and other "commodities" for humans, and studies on Plant Science can ultimately help to improve (the production of) crop plants and their performance in the environment where they grow. In this lecture I hope to give an example of good fundamental research that can lead (or has led) to "better plants".

  • Break Lecture: anti-self response in autoimmunity

    Dear all,

It’s time for Symci’s first event of the year! At tuesday the 15th of october prof. dr. Ger Pruijn will give a lunch lecture about autoimmune diseases. The lecture will focus on antibodies found in myositis, an autoimmune disease characterised by inflammation and degeneration of skeletal muscles.

Sounds good? Come join this lecture for free in HG00.307 from 12:15 till 13:15, October 15th.
Since this is a break lecture, a delicious lunch can’t be missed. For only 2 euro’s we will provide one for you! Sign up before the 14th of October via the BeeVee website or send a mail to

    More about the lecture:

    The anti-self response in autoimmunity
A reaction of the immune system to the body’s own components is observed in many autoimmune diseases. This is associated with the production of autoantibodies, which are often disease-specific. Myositis is an autoimmune disease that is characterized by inflammation of skeletal muscles and muscle degeneration. Several autoantibodies have been identified in myositis and most of these can be used to classify patients into subgroups with distinct clinical features. For example, autoantibodies to cN-1A (a protein) are frequently found in patients with ‘inclusion body myositis’. Ger Pruijn will discuss the discovery of these autoantibodies, the identification of their target protein, their diagnostic value, and the question why immunological tolerance to the cN-1A protein in these patients is lost.

  • Poolparty

    Dear (marine) Biologists,

    - You’re only able to enter the Poolparty between 20:00 – 21:00. So be on time!
    - The party will end at 00:30.
    - Because of the privacy of our guests, we don’t want any phones around the Poolparty. You need to
keep them into the lockers. (bring one euro for a locker, maybe share this with a friend, they are big
    - It’s not allowed to dive or run at any time.
    - When you break any objects, all costs will be for you.
    - A shower is required before entering the pool.
    - Smoking is only allowed in the smoking area.
    - There is a zero-tolerance policy regarding bringing alcohol/drugs/food and anything made of glass.
There will be a bag check at the entrance.
    - The guests are expected to be sober at the start of the party. Whenever it’s noticed that someone is
drunk, they will be refused to enter the party.
    - Whenever someone is too drunk/ being a nuisance for the organization, they will be removed from
    the party.
